In 2012 the VDNFC launched the “Catch Your Dreams” school agenda showcasing the culture and pride of First Peoples and the academic success of some 190 Aboriginal youth from Val-d’Or. The agenda presents graduates (including photos) from elementary, secondary, and post-secondary schools or VDNFC literacy and employability programs. It also includes portraits of thirteen youth and adults who stand out for the various paths they took to stay in school or their commitment in the community. The school agenda is a key tool for students and serves as a means of communication with parents, but its main purpose is to strengthen the sense of identity, self-esteem, and self-confidence of Aboriginal students at all academic levels. By promoting recognition throughout the year, the agenda complements the Mëmëgwashi Gala, an annual celebration of community members who have stayed in school.
